I think you can see this as a career. I started part time at weekends as a Party Host, then when I left school I joined full-time and got to work on the Bar and Lanes as I was 18.
And now I'm on Reception. I've learnt such a lot of new areas and it's really good to have something on your CV to say you've had all this experience. There's such good opportunities in this company as well. Team Leaders. Managers. And everyone is involved, we're all just part of a team instead of being separate. I think it's really nice that everyone is involved in everything to do with our centre. You can see there's a chance for progression which is great. That's what makes me really enjoy working here.

I joined Hollywood Bowl Group because it seemed like a really fun environment and something I'd really enjoy doing. I looked into them online and it seemed to be very customer based.
I missed dealing with customers in my previous job as a dental nurse. People always think it's strange that I moved here from doing that, but it's much more interesting being in a bowling centre where you get to interact with customers and have fun, believe me. And it's brilliant being part of a bigger team where you can help out in different areas of the centre, like the bar and reception. We're all here for the customers and each other. Hollywood Bowl Group is a great company to work for and there are such good opportunities here for a career, from a Lane Host I could move up to Team Leader and one day, even into management. I love it.

What makes a good manager here? Outside of being a good leader, it's about being passionate, enthusiastic and committed. You've really got to enjoy your job.
Think about what you enjoy about your current job and what you do. All that has to come out in the way you are – in the business and around your team. Because of the nature of this business and the wide variety of customers, each day is different. Depending on when you start your shift, there is a big difference. On an early, we're here two and half hours before the centre opens at 11am to give yourself time to set everything ready for the first customers. Where as on a late shift at 4pm, you're walking into a busy environment and do your handover, set yourself up and you could be working with a couple of Birthday parties 45 minutes later and the whole evening rolls on from there. So if you want to be constantly engaged in a business where literally no two days are the same, you should look to join Hollywood Bowl Group in a management role.

My career? Where do I start? I joined as a Party Host on Saturdays back in 2003. From there I went onto Reception and worked my way around the other teams just building up my skills in each area until I was able to go on and be a trainee Assistant Manager which is when my management career started here.
Since then I progressed through a Deputy Manager role at a new centre and now I'm the Centre Manager in Watford. The best thing about it all so far? The wide range of things I've been doing. From the involvement in customer service, which is the main focus to my role, to dealing with my teams and our customers themselves. My development has come from various training schemes I've had throughout my time here and doing the role day to day. Being part of a large company means that you can progress very quickly as I have and you can move into other areas of the business and centres across the UK.
